External Presence Sharing
External Presence Sharing
note
This feature is supported only for version 70 and onwards.
You can share presence information between two tenants on the same PBX or across different PBX servers in separate locations. The PBX systems must be able to reach each other over the internet.
Example Scenario
In this example, we'll share the presence of extension 489 (John Wick) from a tenant on PBX02 with the extensions of a tenant on PBX01.
Configuration Steps
Step 1: Create an Inbound Subscription on PBX01
- Navigate to Tenant Settings → Trunks → Presence Sharing
- Add an inbound subscription for extension 489 on PBX02:
- Under Account, enter:
489 - Add a descriptive Name (e.g., "John Wick - PBX02")
- Set Visibility to:
*(asterisk for all extensions) - Click Save
- Under Account, enter:

- Copy the generated URL – you'll need this for the next step

Step 2: Create an Outbound Subscription on PBX02
- Navigate to Tenant Settings → Trunks → Presence Sharing
- Add an outbound subscription:
- Select the local extension (extension 489 in this case)
- Paste the URL copied from the inbound subscription on PBX01
- Click Save

Monitoring External Presence
Once configured, you can monitor the external account through multiple interfaces:
Vodia Web App
- Extension 489 will now appear under External Accounts
- When extension 489 is on a call, you'll see the updated status reflected in real-time
- The status indicator will show call activity as demonstrated in the screenshot

BLF (Busy Lamp Field) on Desk Phones
- You can configure an External Account BLF button for supported desk phones
- This provides visual presence indication directly on the phone
- Refer to the screenshot below for BLF configuration examples

Prerequisites
- Both PBX systems must be running version 70 or higher
- Network connectivity between PBX servers must allow bidirectional communication
- Appropriate firewall rules must be configured to permit presence subscription traffic
Troubleshooting
If presence sharing is not working:
- Verify both PBX systems are on version 70+
- Confirm the URL was copied correctly
- Check network connectivity between servers
- Ensure firewall rules allow the necessary traffic
- Review logs in the PBX admin interface for subscription errors
