Provisioning Snom M9

How can I provision an m9?

To use the Vodia PBX provisioning with snom m9, you need to either list it's MAC address in the extension settings for the PBX or perform the steps shown below. MAC-based provisioning will work if both the PBX and the m9 can trust each other certificates, which should be the case when using them out-of-the box.

If the out-of-the-box does not work, a few extra steps are required:

  • On the m9, under Setup-> Network-> Provisioning Server enter http://<pbx_address>/prov/snom-m9-{mac}.xml . Your phone might restart on its own, this is ok.
  • Then under Setup->Security, fill in the following fields:
    • HTTP Client User: <extension>@<domain_name> (for example:
    • HTTP Client Password: the Web password of the extension that you can set in the Vodia PBX in the extension details
    • HTTP Client Password (repeat): the Web password of the extension again
  • Then under Setup->Security-> Certificate Policy choose option 'Don’t validate certificates'. Then restart again, and then your phone should get provisioned correctly.

Note: to provision more than one handsets with different Vodia PBX extensions, prior to the provisioning you will need to enter the MAC address of the base station in the Vodia PBX web interface for each of the respective extensions (click on the Extension and then on Registration and fill in the Bind to MAC Address). Then, in the m9 interface you can choose which identity will be assigned to which handset.
